Clinical Transformation Specialist

Shriners Hospitals for Children is looking for a full-time Clinical Transformation Specialist. The Clinical Transformation Specialist will serve as the primary resource for providing advanced Clinical integration support at the local level. As a resource the Clinical Transformation Specialist provides on going user education and informatics support for various teams, committees and informatics projects throughout the facility. This position assists in providing facility vision and direction for implementations, workflow design, data management and related duties to support Shriners Hospitals for Children Mission and Vision.

Job Requirements:

Clinical Excellence

Supports clinical integration, operations, and achievement of clinical excellence related to Informatics. Supports the Clinical Analyst with development, delivery, communication and evaluation of staff education related to clinical systems. Coaches, mentors, and provides at-the-elbow support for members of the clinical team in gaining and maintaining competency in use of clinical information and communication systems. Supports Clinical Analyst in developing and coordinating communication regarding future EHR changes to clinical staff and stakeholders. Develops and performs competency assessments related to clinician use of information systems; documents findings; designs and delivers targeted remediation training as necessary. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions. Facilitates and or participates in interdisciplinary teams to identify clinical systems improvements.

Project Management

Leads project teams, coordinates work activities, reports on work status and provides input on team performance. Utilizes expertise and understanding of all clinical applications to instruct and coach team members. Take on project/engagement management responsibilities as required and assigned.


Leadership, Consultative Skills and Subject Matter Expertise

Effective change management leadership. Follows through to ensure final resolution of problems, recommending longer-term solutions when appropriate and communicating back to the individual reporting the problem. Brings work groups together to achieve consensus for system changes. Facilitates the two-way flow of communication for establishing and maintaining understanding between Information Systems and Clinical departments. Participates in the development of Policies and Procedures for area(s) of responsibility. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision and core values of SHC on a daily basis.

Clinical Transformation

Maintains Cerner Model Experience. Serves as a resource to individuals and teams at the local level and in collaboration with Headquarters. Provides opportunities for users to verbalize concerns and suggest potential improvements related to the use of clinical information systems. Coordinates work with users and the Information Technology department to resolve conflicts between workflow and the clinical information systems. Participates in post implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed processes. Assists in testing new system applications and other special assignments as directed. Provide workflow analysis and recommendations for optimization of the clinical and non-clinical EHR interfaced applications.

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Health Informatics or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in a clinical/health informatics role
  • At least 3 years of experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, clinical information and technology
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical practices, operations and administration
  • Facilitation skills to lead work groups in clinical integration and identifying emerging requirements
  • Demonstrated analytical and effective problem solving skills using fact-base information in evolving situations, while adhering to deadlines
  • Must be comfortable utilizing MS Office suite (i.e., Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to translate technical and clinical user needs in a concise, understandable manner
  • Willingness to address issues and take ownership, knowing when and how to escalate issues
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to interact with clinical staff


  • Masters Degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field
  • At least 1 year of experience using Cerner Millennium
