DCYF After Hours Social Service Specialist – Spokane

Description The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is a new cabinet agency in Washington State that has been established for the purpose of delivering existing services in a way that produces better outcomes for children, youth, and families served by the State of Washington.

We’re looking for **Social Service Specialists** to join our team at several of our locations to help build DCYF, working toward the common goal of eliminating child and youth outcome disparities based on race and ethnicity.

We are seeking high energy Social Service professionals willing to work in a part-time/after-hours job.

We are recruiting for all levels of Social Service Specialist 1.

You will respond to emergency calls in Spokane.

We will have positions available in our Spokane office.

After-hours staff respond to and investigate reports of abuse and neglect in a timely and efficient manner during the times that the local DCYF offices are closed.

Local offices are closed from 5pm to 8am each day, weekends, and all holidays, although the need to assist children still exists.

The average number of hours per week varies depending on the number of days you can work and the number of calls received.

You are expected to be on-call if scheduled to work on the calendar that you help create along with the needs of After-Hours.

**There is a lot of flexibility in scheduling, some weekends are to be expected.** An after-hours job is excellent for those professionals already employed in social services, but wish to supplement their income.

This is also a great opportunity for those starting out in social work to gain experience in the field.

**Required Qualifications:** * Ability to make critical decisions, based on the integration of information from multiple sources that may be discrepant, in high-stress situations.

* Ability to engage children and families under difficult circumstances, to gather information to make accurate and precise decisions.

* Proven ability to identify problems, develop and implement solutions.

* Ability to communicate information both orally and in writing so others will understand.

* Ability to remain calm when being confronted and to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to successfully manage competing priorities.

**What we are looking for:** Professionals with Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field.

Additional social service experience could meet qualifications for the Social Service Specialist 2 or Social Service Specialist 3 level.
