Duties may include but are not limited to the following:)Engineering Technician 1Construction Inspection/Materials Inspection/Survey/Design Assistant1.

Under close supervision, assists by making measurements, setting spread stakes, checking grades, asphalt yields, surfacing depths and other data; writes, receives and accounts for item tickets for materials hauled or supplied by contractors; operates truck scales; reads and interprets plans and specifications for projects; inspects workmanship and materials; notes and reports deviations from plans or specifications to the supervising inspector.2.

Under close supervision, assists by taking samples of rock, asphalt, concrete, etc.; by running tests and making computations of and documenting the results.3.

Under close supervision, performs routine surveying assignments; assists in computing curves, elevations, etc.; measures distances, assists in locating and uncovering section and property corners and monuments.4.

Under close supervision, performs routine computer aided drafting of plans and makes limited engineering computation such as the reduction of field notes or calculating quantities; operates various computer-aided drafting programs.

Accurately maintains County maps and records.

Plots legal descriptions.As a Utility Inspection Assistant, under close supervision, inspects placement of private utilities within the County right-of-way in accordance with the requirements of the permit.

Checks compaction, width of cut, repair of cut, traffic control and finish road patching.As a Traffic Survey Technician under the close supervision of a higher level traffic technician or designated supervisor, determines locations for and sets traffic counters; makes visual traffic classifications and turning movement counts; sets parameters and retrieves traffic data from computerized permanent recording locations; gathers and analyzes information and prepares information and prepares required reports.

Maintains and repairs traffic survey equipment; orders and maintains inventory of parts and supplies for traffic survey equipment.As a Stormwater Field Technician under close supervision, inspects stormwater facilities to determine their condition, need for maintenance and repair.

Enforces stormwater facility compliance with plans and specifications, initiates corrective action.

Informs public about stormwater maintenance practices and stormwater facility operation.

Develops technical elements of public awareness documents.

Measures and calculates surface coverage on parcels in the Stormwater Service Area, using sitevisits, aerial photographs, GIS applications and engineering plans.

Organizes and participates in public information meetings and workshops for Stormwater Utility.

Responds to public questions and requests for investigations in person, in writing and by phone.

Assists in database development and updates for stormwater related concerns.As a R.I.D.

Assistant, under close supervision, assists by computing density factors, areas and traverse closure; drawing and color coding assessment areas on maps; interpreting data and coordinates on plats; checking quantities or cost estimates and tallying quantities from plans and making field measurements of improvements.As a Sewer Connection Inspection Assistant, under close supervision, takes sewer “as-built” drawing measurements; completes inspection report forms, including project sketch; checks grades, depths to sewer lines, and other data.

Reads and interprets plans and specifications for sewer projects; inspects workmanship and materials; notes and reports deviations from plans, specifications, or County standards to the supervising inspector.As an Environmental Permit Assistant, under close supervision, assists in preparing applications and documentation for environmental permits required for County road, bridge, and maintenance projects; assists in reviewing and processing project applications for compliance with the Flood Ordinance and the State Environmental Policy Act, performs site visits; responds to public inquiries, maintains permit files and data bases, assists with other Environmental Programs as assigned including wetland mitigation monitoring, Newman Lake permit review and assistance, and hydraulic project field investigations.As a Water Resources Assistant, under close supervision, assists with monitoring and maintenance of Newman Lake flood control and aerator/alum injection facilities including taking staff gage readings, adjusting gates, and taking equipment operating gage readings; assists with Newman Lake permit reviews, education, and implementation of BMP’s; assists with milfoil control efforts including boat surveys with GPS data collection, permit applications, notices and maps; assists in field with floodplain permit site visits, wetland mitigation monitoring, permit compliance monitoring and hydraulic project field investigation.

Assists volunteers with water quality monitoring.

Maintains correspondence, permit, grant and operating record files and databases.

Assists with response to public inquiries and permit processing.As Information Technology Assistant, under close supervision assists with providing front-line information technology support including diagnosis of IT hardware and software issues; researching specialized Public Works IT hardware and software products; installing specialized Public Works IT hardware and software; communicating with third-party IT vendors; maintaining IT hardware inventory; disposing of IT hardware; updating of Public Works internet and intranet webpages using content manager and html5; creating, manipulating, and modifying of Geographic Information System (GIS) data within the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS software environment.Employees may be assigned a combination of duties from jobs within this class or perform duties of similar responsibility and difficulty, not specifically mentioned herein, yet incidental to the complete work process.Performs other related duties as required.Minimum RequirementsEngineering Technician 1: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of technical engineering-related experience or training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job.LICENSE: Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.Selection FactorsEngineering Technician 1Knowledge of:
