Late Night Youth Counselor

Morning Star Boys' Ranch

Ranch has a long history, beginning in 1957, providing residential foster care for boys ages 6 ? 13. Our boys are in need of compassion, structure, attention, encouragement, mentoring and development. We are seeking individuals with a background in youth development, coaching, childcare, church youth counselor, etc. and/or a combination of experience and education in the field(s) of social work, child development, psychology or similar field. Our wage plan is tiered based upon education (High School, AA, BA/BS &/or Master?s) and years of experience. Must be at least 21 year?s old, have a high school degree or equivalent and a minimum of one year working directly with children or two years of social service education may be substituted for work experience. Qualified candidates must be able to pass a federal and state background check, hold a current driver?s license and be insurable on our automobile policy.Day to day duties can include:Using ?teachable moments? or windows of opportunities to teach life skills, self-awareness concepts, hygiene and appearance.Group Mental Health work to aid youth in skill building and social rehabilitation.Using verbal interventions/de-escalation as trained to maintain safety of client.Socially engaging with the boys for their personal development and self-esteem.Demonstration of professional boundaries, through appropriate behavior, conversations, language, humor, tone of voice, body language, with a positive attitude and role model for youth.Empathy/sympathy to support boys who have experienced abuse, neglect and childhood trauma.Conduct cleanup of common areas, wash, dry, fold laundry.Prepare breakfast according to posted menu.Physical requirements:Running or walking for long distances to ensure safety of youth.Physical intervention for safety of youth ? bending, stooping, kneeling and/or lifting up to 50 lbs.Agility to quickly respond to rapidly changing physical boundaries.Morning Star also has formal professional training and development, a tuition reimbursement program, employee incentives and career path promotion opportunities.
