Description:A $2,500 sign-on bonus is being offered to any new, external candidate hired into this position
– $1,250 upon hire and $1,250 upon 1 year anniversary.Providence is calling a Phlebotomist (Lab Specimen Processing, Evening Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital in Spokane, Washington.

Refers the problem to the appropriate person if neededAware of Safe Medial Device Act and voluntary FDA reportingProcessing Functions: Accurately handle and delives specimens in a timely mannerClean centrifuges on a weekly basis and records according to departmental policyCorrectly register patient demographics into the HIS and LIS computer systemsFollow special handling requirements when processing samplesFollow established guidelines for handling service samplesMeet deadlines for specimen pick-ups and deliveries to departmentsProcess specimens within the turn around time requirementsCorrectly place specimens in proper location: Department, refrigerator, and/or freezer, according to the specimen requirements after processingCorrectly place specimens into tracking system so they can be tracked as they move about from division/facility to division/facilityContinually maintain a professional/ appropriate departmental noise levelAccurately place and pull specimens into and from storageCommunicate correct specimen requirements accurately and courteouslyMonitor the add-on printer for additional testing to be performed on specimens in labTroubleshoot problems appropriatelyPhlebotomy Functions: Demonstrate knowledge and technique while showing professionalism towards our patientsOrganize and maintain phlebotomy WOW cart in a sanitary and properly supplied conditionKeep all supplies up to dateGreet patients in a courteous manner by using scripting and explaining the procedure to be preformedFollow correct patient identification policy and procedure always using two patient identifiersThoroughly clean patients’ skin in the area where the blood is to be drawn according to policyComplete blood drawing procedure according to established policyAccurately label the specimen immediately after blood drawPerform all drawing procedures in a professional manner with special attention to turn around timesSelect age appropriate equipment according to age specific drawComplete blood draws within 3-5 minutesPerform blood draws according to specific times requested or priority orderedFollow established policies for collection of special tests including scabies, sweat collection, ACT, PKU, New Born Screen, Teg Mapping etc.Teaching: Demonstrate procedures, instrumentation and techniques to train new staff and studentsShare newly acquired knowledge by instructing co-workers, recommending procedural changes or presenting information in a manner acceptable to the supervisorParticipate professionally in new employee orientation or training in procedures of all Medical Technology students, MLT Students, Career Focus students, and phlebotomy studentsDoctor’s Building / Out Patient Laboratories: Maintain sample quality while demonstrating the key values towards our patientsIdentify Medicare patients and follows policy according to ABN regulationsCorrectly register patients into the HIS and LISFollow established protocols regarding safety procedures re: drawing blood and pouring off specimensSpecimen Handling: Maintain the quality of patient samples by following appropriate specimen handling specificationsProperly identify and label patient specimensFollow correct specimen-handling requirements to maintain the highest sample quality from specimen collection through disposalFollow special handling requirements as requiredPrepare samples for transportation according to departmental policy and to meet all regulationsDistribute samples to the correct locationProvide clients with specimen requirement information in an accurate and courteous mannerProvide clinicians/caregivers requested test results in an accurate and courteous mannerEvaluate specimen integrity and takes corrective action when necessaryHandle Stat specimens in a timely mannerNotify technical staff when a test will be delayed due to a sample handling issueSeek information or asks for assistance from appropriate personnel when necessaryComputer Functions: Perform computer data entry and maintains expertise with computer systems utilized for ordering and reporting of resultsVerify computer entries to ensure accuracy and demonstrates the ability to perform all data entry and use of laboratory software in an accurate mannerUtilize the computerized information system efficientlyRegister patients in the computer using the correct patient identification informationAccession specimens maintaining accuracy of specimen number, billing information, demographic data and patient identificationPrint pending logs and/or worksheets according to departmental policy; reviews as requiredPrint labels and accurately labels specimens as requiredPrint and distribute reports in an accurate and timely manner according to departmental policySeek information or requests assistance when data or patient information is in questionSupply Maintenance: Perform reagent and supply maintenance functionsMonitor reagents/supplies and replenishes as neededOrder reagents/supplies in a conscientious and cost-effective mannerReceive reagents/supplies, dates and labels items as required, and verifies that proper supplies have been received in the ordered quantityDistribute reagents/supplies to appropriate laboratory sections, ensures that all sections are properly suppliedSend out requested supplies to clients in an accurate and timely mannerPrepare stock supplies/reagents such as 10% bleach, appropriately labeling and stocking as neededLaboratory Safety: Follow all safety guidelines outlined in the Laboratory Safety Manual and Departmental ProceduresPerform and document annual review of Laboratory Safety ManualReadsand initials all changes and updates to Safety policies and proceduresWear appropriate personal protective equipment including lab coats, gloves, face protection and respiratory protection as appropriateRemove personal protective equipment before leaving the work area, and never wears PPE anywhere that food or drink are consumedIdentify potential or actual safety hazard problems and takes immediate corrective action.
