Prairie Dog Pet Mercantile is a locally-owned, woman-operated holistic pet supply store with locations in Kendall Yards and on the South Hill.

Our team is hardworking, humble, and seriously passionate about pet nutrition.

We’re looking for a part-time retail associate to join us for the long haul — this position has the potential to become a full-time salary position.

Job Description

You’ll be the one who greets our customers — and sometimes their pets 😉 — with a smile when they walk in the door.

They’ll rely on you to suggest products that genuinely enhance their pets’ quality of life, so it’s critical that you build an in-depth working knowledge of the merchandise we sell.

On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to:
Proactively greet and assist customers

Run the point of sale system (iPads and computers)

Answer the phone

Receive orders

Stock merchandise

Keep the store neat and tidy

Get to know awesome customers

Meet lots of dogs…and some cats, too!
What We Need From You

First and foremost, we’re looking for reliability.

You’ll work most Saturdays and occasional Sundays, with some meetings and trainings in the morning or evening.

We’re a small business, so our team members’ schedules change from time to time.

We’re also big on commitment.

This isn’t a big-box retail job: Our customers are incredibly loyal and they place a lot of trust in us, so we make it a priority to listen actively so we can hook them up with exactly the products they need.

Because this has the potential to become a full-time salary-track position, previous retail experience is a must.

We’re looking for all the usual skills — punctuality, proficiency with computers, ability to stand/reach/kneel/lift 50 pounds/do a jig — but we’re also looking for initiative.

We’re looking for someone who has at least a little basic knowledge around human or animal nutrition, and is eager to learn more.

Finally, we’re looking for someone who fits with our existing team.

We’re a pretty self-motivated bunch, so if there’s something that needs doing, you won’t catch us waiting around to do it.

We know the value of laughing at ourselves, and we genuinely enjoy solving problems together.
